What might be wrong or go wrong in a 99 XLT
Having totalled the Buick Park Avenue that we lent her, which used to be her grandad's, my spoiled-brat college-senior daughter (aka She Who Will Not Take No For An Answer) now wants a Ford Explorer -- nothing else will do. Because "it looks cute" doncha know. And it has to be blue. We test-drove a blue '99 for sale today from a private owner and offered him $3500 for it, on condition that our mechanic OKs it. It's pretty clean and we didn't notice any problem while driving it. It has the 4.0 liter engine and auto transmission, and the mileage is 108,000. The owner had the serpentine belt replaced recently and said there's been no major problem except for something with the transmission that was repaired under warranty.
Is that a good price, if the car is mechanically sound?
What kind of problem tends to crop up in these cars when they have that kind of mileage?
